The Wound

‘ The wound is the place where the light enters you.’ Rumi

If I did not believe this statement to my very depths, I could never have spent the last 25 years working in the field of loss and grief. In my years of this work I have witnessed pain so deep that it seems nearly incompatible with life… but never once, have I seen an absence of light within the wound.

Breaking brings with it a source of healing that transcends this world.  The breaking happens on the outside, but even as a life shatters, deep below the surface, there is a safety net being woven by a sacred weaver we cannot see.

It doesn’t matter how many pieces fall as we break, they are all caught safely in a web of light… and held there until we are ready to pick up the fragments and re-assemble our world.

Like the caterpillar to a butterfly, the process can be dark and messy, but in the end, we always get our wings.
