Students and Masters

When the student is ready, the master appears.

I have always loved this saying and I recently stumbled across this great statement by Robert Anton Wood that sheds an even brighter light on this old truth:

“How many times have you encountered the saying, ‘When the student is ready, the Master appears?’ Do you know why that is true? The door opens inward. The Master is everywhere, but the student has to open his mind to hear the Master’s voice.’

This is a profound reminder that our enlightenment does not depend upon finding the right teacher; it depends upon opening ourselves to the unlimited wisdom that the universe always provides.

Can you think of a time in your life when wisdom arrived but you kept the door shut tight because you couldn’t hear the bell? If you are waiting for growth that does not seem to be coming, maybe it is time for you to take the initiative and boldly open up the door. You might be surprised to find that wisdom was standing there quietly all along, simply waiting for you to invite her in.
