There is such power in this statement. There will always be people and circumstances in our lives that are acidic; and by their very nature will burn the tender skin of our authentic selves. All that we can do is either take ourselves out of the line of fire, or allow our skin to thicken and just soldier on.
When we find ourselves in a circumstance where soldiering on is the only option, thicker skin on the outside is okay, as long as we can keep our hearts soft and open on the inside.
