Your Own Road

‘It’s your road, and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.’ Rumi

I received a sweet email from our 8-year-old son’s teacher today and it made me think of this quote. She praised him for being such a bright and inquisitive boy and noted that he has made fast friends and adjusted very well to his recent move. Her only concern is that he does not like to ‘go it alone’ very often, and seeks more assistance with his class work than he really needs.

I had to smile at his efforts…. Whether it is reading and arithmetic during childhood or some serious adult issue later in life, none of us really like to walk the necessary journeys all alone.

Companionship when it comes along is a wonderful thing…. but what is most important is to stay the path whether we have company or not…. because others can walk with us, but no one can walk for us.
