Dive Deep

Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I received a call from a potential client a few weeks ago and at the end of her message she used the word ’embarrassed’ to explain how she felt about seeking therapy. I would love to say that her feelings are uncommon, but unfortunately they are not that unusual.

To some, seeking therapy is equated with weakness. I am always quick to reframe this notion.  Therapy is nothing more than bringing a guide along when heading into new territory. In a literal world one who does this is not seen as weak, but instead as wise.

No matter how carefully we live our lives struggles will arise- and they always call us into deep water. Once in the water, we can seek a guide or go it alone; either way, if we are willing to swim far and dive deep- we will always come back with a treasure.
