Autumn

‘Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting, and autumn a mosaic of them all.’ Stanley Horowitz

I love this quote because it reminds us of the depth of the autumn season. On the autumn equinox there is an equal amount of darkness and light, a reminder from nature that it is a time to balance both the dark and the light within ourselves. Autumn is a time of both beauty and decay; a season that gently reminds us of the worth of both of these states.

As we watch leaves tumbling toward the ground we are reminded of the impermanence of all things. Like the trees that are dropping leaves, this is a time for each of us to gently release anything that has become a burden…trusting that it is this letting go that will eventually lead to the new growth we seek.

  1. This speaks to me profoundly today, Doctor, given that I have just returned from New Warrior training in which we dug shadows from our respective bags, and brought them into the Light of day. Many thanks to you for this offering.
